The City of Excelsior has a long history of being proactive and preserving the City's irreplaceable historic resources. Since the 1990's the City has designated 23 individual historic structures and was one of the first Minnesota communities to become a Certified Local Government.
In 2019, the City hired preservation consultant Hess Roise to complete a National Registration eligibility study for Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office review. The consultant reviewed 69 properties that could be located in a National Register historic district and narrowed down the proposed National Register district to the area outlined in the photo attached to this notice.
This meeting will provide the following information:
• What is the National Register of Historic Places?
• Why does Excelsior want to nominate my property on the National Register?
• What are the results of listing?
• What are the restrictions, rules, and regulations for historic property owners?
• Can I modify, remodel, or renovate my historic property?
• How do I apply for grant money or tax credits?
