[ARCHIVED] Apply to be on a City Commission - Now Accepting Applications for all Commissions

The City of Excelsior is currently accepting applications for the Parks and Recreation Commission, Heritage Preservation Commission, and Planning Commission. See below for additional information. 

The Parks and Recreation Commission consists of seven residents of the city appointed by the City Council. This advisory commission has the primary responsibility of reporting and advising the Council on park and recreational matters, developing immediate and long-range plans for the park and recreational needs of the residents of the city, and enhancing the city’s parks through evaluation, planning, and initiating new programs and ideas. The Parks and Recreation Commission meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month at 6:15 P.M.  

The Planning Commission consists of seven residents of the city appointed by the City Council. This advisory commission has the primary responsibility for planning and zoning matters as they relate to the overall general welfare and development of the community. They review and provide recommendations to the City Council on items such as redevelopment proposals, rezoning, planned unit developments, subdivisions, conditional use permits, variances, and design review. The Planning Commission meetings are held the second and fourth Monday of the month at 6:30P.M. 

The Heritage Preservation Commission consists of seven members to be appointed by the City Council. This advisory commission has primary responsibility for promoting and preserving the historic character and charm of Excelsior. Members shall be residents of the City and shall have a demonstrated interest and/or expertise in historic preservation. At least two members of the Commission shall be preservation-related professionals, including the professions of history, architecture, architectural history, archaeology, planning, real estate, design, building trades, landscape architecture, or law. This Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
